Sketching and Inking a Landscape

desert landscape by arthur siloy

The Process

Despite the plethora AI generated art on the internet, nothing still beats the fun of doing things the traditional way. In this example, I’ve sketched this barren landscape, starting with penciling the initial art then inking over it. I tried this in a similar manner comic book artists do it.

Drawing on a sketchbook with a slight tinge of off-white color, the final scan gives it an almost aged look, printed from an old magazine. There is a touch of post editing to fix some scanning issues like being too dark.

The Pencil

I used a 0.5 Fabre Castle mechanical pencil pencil to give it a more consistent thickness.

Inking

For the inking, I used a combination of 0.2 and 0.5 gel pens. These are what I normally use for my drawings. I’m still planning to use other tools like brushes in the future. Basic
